Hilda Huj is CPT, EMDR, and Hakomi trained, Registered Clinical/Counselling and Forensic Psychologist in the Province of Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and Newfoundland and Labrador. She completed a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degree in Psychology in Osijek, Croatia, and subsequently equated her academic credentials to Canadian standards. With over 10 years of experience as a Psychologist, Hilda shows her dedication to psychology by contributing to different communities through her community outreach efforts, as well as professional psychological services. Additionally, she supervises students and Provisional Psychologists, through programs that make professional mental health services more affordable. In her therapy, assessment, and consultation work, Hilda specializes in working with youth, adults and families that have been impacted by trauma. She believes that trauma is a truly universal human experience, and that we all can experience trauma in many ways. No matter the form, trauma always has a significant and complex impact on our well-being. This impact can often be seen in development of different complex symptoms, which may escalate to a point of a mood, anxiety, conduct, or even a personality disorder. Given the nature of trauma and the turmoil these arising symptoms can cause, trauma can be very difficult to face and cope with appropriately. To facilitate this healing process, in her work, Hilda uses an integrative approach tailored to suit her client’s unique values, needs, experiences, and circumstances. She finds this kind of approach important because it promotes healing through a non-judgemental, interpersonal, supportive, and cooperative therapeutic relationship. Additionally, it serves as a foundation for a therapeutic relationship that is open to the use of various elements of specific evidenced based therapies, inclusive of play, talk, and somatic therapies as well as listening therapies, such as The Safe and Sound Protocol. In addition to English, Hilda also provides services in Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian, and Montenegrin.
